The Art of Form and Code

2023 has been a varied, interesting year

2023 has been a varied, interesting year. Whilst my work is not for everyone, nor would I want it to be, I appreciate all the support from collectors and non-collectors. Here’s a few hi-lights. Includes guest appearance from @jerrysaltz

COLLISIONS
The start of the year saw me create this series of works as my response to the often polarised reaction of the use of AI and other similar techniques in digital art. We’re always better off when we approach these new things with curiosity, allowing them to collide, merge and become entangled. Dropped on Makersplace.

PERSIAN DREAMS
My first solo presentation at Art Dubai with Gazelli Art House, based on the epic poem The Book of Kings.

PASSENGERS BCN
Using official passenger data from Barcelona airport, Passengers: BCN reveals the causal effect of the COVID pandemic from 2019 – 2021 realised as physical data-driven sculptures fused with digital projection. Part of Digital Impact in Barcelona, a 3 month digital art expo – the largest ever in mainland Spain.

VACANT SPACES
Created for the launch of Asprey Studio in London, Vacant Spaces uses an AI trained on satellite images of car parks to imagine a world without humans.

ODE TO VALENTINA
Auctioned at Christies for MAPS Psychedelic research, tribute to Valentina Wasson and other female pioneers in the field of Psychedelic Medicine. Acquired by 1of1.

GEN/GEN: GENERATIVE GENERATIONS
A group exhibition at Gazelli Art House spanning six decades, featuring works. I had two works on shows: You, Me and The Machine and a new iteration of Cinema Redux.

NOTHING CAN EVER BE THE SAME
Commissioned for the Biennale Musica 2023 in Venice and created in collaboration with documentary filmmaker Gary Hustwit, Nothing Can Ever Be The Same is a 168-hour-long real-time generative work, re-imagining the visual archive and music of Brian Eno. No particle simulation was harmed in the process.

ENO
The year wrapped up with news that the generative documentary film I’ve been working with Gary Hustwit for the last five years has been selected to premiere at The Sundance Film Festival in January 2024. Next year is going to be fun.
