That Was The Week That Was — 5th April 2026
Back in 2019 I created the graphics and titles for Beyond Tellerrand — the design event run by my friend Marc Thiele. Seven years on I'm doing the same again, and so this week I started to put ideas together for a series of posters, one for each speaker, different ones for the event itself and then finally the animated titles.
In 2019 I did it all in Houdini but this time I wanted to create something in Touch Designer, with the idea of creating deterministic posters so each one is unique in some way.
For now I've included a sketch as I started to play with some ideas. All my work pretty much starts with pencil sketches as it allows me to just scribble ideas down without judgement.
Whilst I was working on that, a newly acquired 1978 copy of Chic's C'est Chic was playing on the turntable.
A nice side-effect of making the graphics for Beyond Tellerrand is I get to go to Düsseldorf for the event, so flights were booked. I still find air travel magical as an idea, though the reality these days is often the opposite. Still, I like to remind myself of days gone by and the glamour of travel which is why I love this Dunhill travel organiser which Lisa bought me. The sad thing is, almost all of the analog things it has spaces for are now relics of the past; boarding cards, travellers checks, airline tickets. Eventually the passport will go the same way.
