In 1990 I helped create a series of breakbeats for the Breakbeats series of albums by The Original Unknown DJs published by Warrior Records. I would scour record shops and find obscure beats, create loops on quarter inch Ampex 456 tape using splicing tape, a chinagraph pencil and a razor blade and send them down to London to be part of these bootleg, underground albums. These were beats created by others which I then turned into loops which in turn were then used by other DJs and musicians to create new music. This idea of remixing and repurposing, transformation and reinterpretation still sits at the very heart of my process.
