That Was The Week That Was - 2nd February 2015
This week started painfully. I managed to sprain my left ankle — not by any activity at the gym but by simply standing up from the sofa on Monday night. The pain at the time was excruciating and I think I almost feinted. That said, I could put weight on it and walk fine without any limping. The next morning the swelling was like someone had snook in during the night and put a golf ball under my skin. Reading the advice on the NHS website it said only really go to hospital if I couldn't walk on it – which I could – so for now I'm able stay clear of the A&E and a four hour plus wait – thankfully.
As the advice is to try and keep my foot elevated, I took that as a sign to watch a few films with my feet up. Civil War was surprisingly good, but then again it was directed by Alex Garland who also directed Ex Machina. In my head I thought it was going to be one of these awful Olympus has Fallen type things but this was an intelligent, uncompromising vision of a possible American future.
Ironically, given the state of my ankle, I scored a pair of beautiful Shannon Derby shoes made by Church's for a bargain price on Vinted. I do love a Derby and they're probably the style of shoe I wear the most. Before the influx of trainers and sneakers, a pair of Derby shoes were the more casual and sportier choice for footwear.
Talking of all things style, I was very kindly interviewed by Savile Row tailor Alexandra Wood for her podcast, where we talk about my career as well as my approach to clothes and style. You can watch it on YouTube or listen on Spotify.
When I didn't have my feet up, browsing Vinted, I did take some time to create a text scrambling system which allows me to scramble strings of text with varying degrees of severity. I love to make simple components like these, something that does one thing well, but then can be combined with other such components to create something more complex.
