The Art of Form and Code

The visible hand within the work

I love this meringue I bought in a local bakery. I love it because, well, I love meringue, but also because by looking at its form I can see the process that has gone into its making. I can see that because it eschewed being poured into a pre-made mould, every twist and turn has revealed itself to build into its final beautiful poetic form. The person who made this is visible within the work. These days it seems much of the things we make lack that visibility of authorship.

Now where’s that fork? I’ve got meringue to eat.
