In Receipt Of The Now

Marking a moment in time

Created for the ON! Handcrafted Digital Playground exhibition at the Cincinnati Contemporary Arts Centre, In Receipt Of The Now allows visitors to walk away with a paper receipt of the moment they stood in the gallery, complete with the context of what was happening in the rest of the world.

The old adage "everyone remembers where they were when Kennedy was shot" has always fascinated me – the idea of a place and time taking on new meaning in the context of events that are happening in parallel. With In Receipt Of The Now touching a wall made of conductive paint prints a small hand-held receipt that details the time your touched the wall, what the weather was like outside, the local news headline as well as what was happening in the rest of the world and finally a recent tweet pertaining to the event. The visitor can then tear the receipt off and keep it as a memento of their visit.

In the first month of opening over 10,000 receipts were served to people visiting the exhibition. The exhibition runs from March 9th 2012 till September 2013.shorturl: http://daweso.me/X9sxUC
